About Me: My personal struggle with predominantly inattentive ADHD
"Pay attention?", "Are you okay?" these are two phrases I've been hearing my whole life. My teachers always commented how I would space out in class, and as I got older people assumed I was sleeping or under the influence.
I have predominantly inattentive ADHD and I'm on the autism spectrum. I'm writing this blog to help others and raise awareness about predominantly Inattentive ADHD.
I was formally diagnosed with predominantly Inattetive ADHD at 8 years old. Formal meaning alot of tests were done to conclude I have ADHD. A EGG was done to rule out epilepsy, because I spaced out so much. Since my listening skills were horrendous a series of hearing tests were done.
My parents chose therapy over medication. This was a big mistake. Looking back I needed medication so bad and therapy did little to help me. For the next 20 years I struggled with work school, relationships, driving. Basically life was a struggle for me. I was often told I suck at life by my peers and called retarded among other things.
When I was 28, I was really tired of struggling so much with life so I went to the doctor and was rediagnosed with predominantly inattentive ADHD and gave medication a shot. ( I tried medication when I was 20 but gave up guickly). It took a few months to get my dosage right but it made a difference. For someone who doesn't have this form of ADHD, your first time on meds is like the first time someone who needs glasses puts on a pair
Today, I'm 37. I've been at my current job for 6 months and I'm doing great. I've been with my fiance for over 6 and a half years! He has ADHD too but not as bad as I have it and he's helped me a lot with my social skills.
I hope this blog helps create for awareness for Predominantly Inattetive ADHD, and provides help to those with this form of ADHD. I'm not a doctor or therapist but a ADHDer who wants to help others. I will share my own experiences, tips, and other information. Let's have fun!
